Granny MONSTER: Part1

By
October 4, 2010

Good morning to you,

Beautiful day today πŸ™‚Β  Hope that it is the same for you all wherever you are around the globe…

I am gonna show you the beginning of the Granny MONSTER…

This blanket, when finished, will measure 235x235cm without the border :D:D and I assure you it is giving me MONSTER pleasure to crochet…

and I wish we can be many making a MONSTER so we can share all together our pics…Yalla, courage, who wants to join me in this crazy adventure;)?

Like I’ve already told you this blanket is made with big granny squares…

Every square is made with 14 rounds (a multiple of 7). And there will be 49 squares in total (7×7)…7 is my lucky number and I always try to add number 7 to my works…I am an anxious-superstitious person πŸ™‚

I love the idea that every square in one-of-a-kind, so special with its own colors…

I have 5 squares until now…joined together on-the-g0…

…finishing the 6th one:

I will have some difficulties to take pics because it is too big…but I’ll do my best to show it to you from every corner πŸ™‚

I’m sending small parcels of love and happiness to you all through the net…

Have a beautiful Monday,

Sucrette

The squares are so beautiful! I like how the colors are put together. i discover your web recently and I send you my congratulations for your works and style. I like them.

  4. Trapule

Sorry, I got some questions: a) in total, each square’s edge is 33 cm, isn’t it? b)how thick is the yarn or the needle? number 2.5 or 3 (europe), maybe? I’d like to participate but i’m afraid to make a square too smallor with more lines than 7!!

Thank you all for ur kind comments πŸ™‚
    To Trapule:
I am using the stylecraft special DK yarns with a 3.5mm crochet hook. The square is made with 14 rounds and makes a little bit more than 33cmx33cm…I am very happy that you’re gonna crochet along with me πŸ™‚ can’t wait to see some pics;)

Here, here… I want to join in. I want soooo long crochet a big blanket, but no one crochet with me. Here in the town, were i live, no one crochet and all looks crazy, when i say, i crochet with love. So all people here think: Crochet is for old ladys… But iΒ΄m not old. ;o)

So let us together crochet a big granny blanket. ;o) =)

Many smiles and lovely greets from Germany,
    Annika

Just love the happy MONSTER. Would love to join you guys, but we’re moving house, countries in 3 weeks time and at the moment everything will just go into storage and I can only take so much of my stash with me, but will follow everyone who is taking part. What a lovely idea. All the best. Carina x

Thank you for the invitation: my grannies will have 13 rows (I’m superstitious). 7 is also my lucky number. I’ll be using a crochet number 4 which might compensate the row less.
Thank you for this great motivation Angie and I hope to publish very soon my 1st granny.
    Yippie: a new great adventure ! ;-))
    Bisous du soir.

  10. Jacquie

Your Monster Grannies look beautiful! I love them a lot.
When you join them on the go, what are you doing with all the loose wool endings? Are you sewing them before or after you join the grannies?

I am asking because I am making a granny blanket as well and I am wondering whether there is a trick to save some time…
I love crocheting the squares, but all the loose endings……. πŸ™

    Greetings from Germany,
    Mellie

Wow! How many colors are you using exactly? 14 rounds in each square with no repeats, and no 2 squares the same… I can’t imagine how big your stash must be! LOL! This is so beautiful. I think I’m going to have to finally make a granny afghan myself now that you’ve inspired me. :).
