The happy blankie: the beginning

Hello happy people!

How are you? Is it spring already in your part of the world or not yet? Is it still grey and rainy?

In my country spring is already here: sunshine, blue sky, perfect weather 🙂

I started this week a new project: yes, another blanket like you guessed from the title of this post…

It was like a huge need to start it…like I could not resist…and I could not wait finishing other wips before… I had to pick colours and start it…does it happens to you? this huge excitement for starting a project and you could not think of something else rather than holding the hook? ohhh my…

I decided to use all my scraps of yarn…all my leftover little bits and bigger bits of yarn…

yarn1

and there is a lot of colours in my stash…some are tiny balls that make only one round and some are bigger…

yarn2

Oh how I love colorful yarn like that!

I must confess something: My favorite colour these days is yellow-mustard a colour I used to hate when younger…now it is my favorite and I am using it a lot in this project…People change 😉

yarn3

So, I had to start a project that I can easily crochet during hot days…

and making separate squares is not something heavy you have to carry on your lap..

so it had to be squares…squares that I will join later…maybe in autumn… I will not think about the joining method nor the colour now even though yellow-mustard joining is on my mind 🙂 hahaha

Wanna see the squares?

Oh! oh! oh! These are happy squares aren’t they?

I am really really enjoying crocheting each square and taking a lot of pleasure in choosing 4 colours for each one 🙂

This is the kind of projects that makes my heart beats faster 🙂 boum boum boum 🙂

It will be a happy blanket I am sure 🙂

Sending happy thoughts your way…

and wishing you a very happy weekend!

Sucrette

P.S: For the squares I am using this classic pattern but with a small change: I am making 2tr,2ch,2tr in each corner instead of 2tr,1ch,2tr like on the graph 😉

Each square is made with 4 rounds, each round crocheted with a different colour 😉

Hello! This blanket will be lovely and full of happy memories!
Yes, spring is coming slowly but surely. Ma son has seen swallows, yesterday I think, he was the only one to see them, but it is a sure sign for the arrival of spring.
God bless you and keep you safe!
    Love from Madeleine

    Hello SucretteI
I live(lie) in the South of France
I am new and I am filled with admiration for your blog. Thank you for all your publications and your magnificent photos. I consider good that I am going to copy you and to realize a cover(blanket) on the model of your squares. Very beautiful day to you

A bientôt.

Bonjour Angie !
A bientôt.
    Nijenn

Youpiiii. Félicitations encore.

I know just how you feel when you say you just have to start that new project! I have two afghan projects on the go, but I saw a crochet bag on Pinterest and now am creating my own bag, winging the pattern as I could not find instructions to go with the photo! I started it three times and undid it, but now on the 4th try I think I have what I want! So happy to be hooking!

Just Wondering… Are the yarns knitting worsted weight, or sports yarn weight? It is hard to tell from the pictures…

ALso in South Africa, autumn at last arrived in Pretoria! I love the cooler temperatures, just not the dryness of our winter.
Happy squares – will make a happy blanket.

Hi Angie, Colors for your squares are beautiful. Your yarn seems to be more vibrant that any of our American yarns. I use red heart, bernat, lion brand, patron. I’m making these squares also in 2 colors of different colors of each squares. I’m making lap afghans for nursing homes. One nursing home is near my home. You are so inspiring for us to get our hooks out and start getting busy, god Bless you and your beautiful family.

  24. Natalie

    Hi!
I can absolutely understand you concerning the urge of beginning a new project!
At the moment there are two wips on my hook, a jacket and a blanket. The blanket is also made out of the same pattern as yours is – only in one colour each square. And I chain 3 for the corner, for giving the corners more space.

Here in southern Germany we have spring – a bit rainy and not too warm, and I like it like this. I’m not a sun type.

    Lots of love
    Natalie

  25. trish

  26. Rachel

Oooooh, That will shurely become a lovely blanket!
I want to make one like that too, but I do have so many projects on my to-do list, that it will have to wait some time…
I’m looking forward to see yours growing!

Here in Belgium we’ve had a very wet, cold and grey spring so far. We can count the good days on the fingers of our hands. Everybody is so hungry for nice springy weather…

    Love, Liz.
